Surin today is well known for its annual Elephant
Round-Up, which usually takes place in the third week of
November and attracts visitors from all over the world.
Located 457 kilometers from Bangkok.
Surin's heritage is linked to elephants, silk and the
ruins of a Khmer empire. Silk-weaving is a traditional
skill of the province while several Khmer monuments
provide the historical attractions. Among the
attractions of the town is the Elephant Village located
on the Ban Ta Klang, in Tha Tum district, 58 km from
Surin, off Highway 214. The elephants perform in an
annual round-up festival show.
Roads are linked to the area, but it's worth paying
for a tour guide to make it easier to get
around.
