Chiang Mai is Thailand's principal northern city. It
is the provincial capital of a largely mountainous
province. Situated 700km north of Bangkok, Chiang Mai
flourishes as a major religious, cultural and trading
center.
Chiang Mai, the land of magnificent temples, was
originally built and decorated with colorful porcelain
chips and religious sculptures. Temples such as Wat
Chedi Luang, Wat Chiang Man, Wat Ku Tao and others are
among the many beautiful temples worth seeing. Trekking
is quite an exciting activity in Thailand, the best
trails are in northern Thailand, particularly in the
remote provinces of Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai and Mae Hong
Son. This is also the region of the infamous Golden
Triangle, where Thailand, Laos and Myanmar meet.
Thai food is hot and spicy. Pri-kee-noo, a tiny red
or green pepper, is one of the hot ingredients that
makes the particular dish hot and spicy.
