The ancient city of Ayuthaya is located on an island
in the Chao Phraya River, about 80km north of Bangkok.
Ayuthaya's scattered temples and ruins have been
declared as a World Heritage Site. Many ancient ruins
and artwork can be seen in this city, which was founded
in 1350 by King U-Thong.
Among the attractions are the Bang Pa In Palace and
Japanese Village. Ayuthaya today is an assemblage of
magnificent ruins that should not be missed by anyone
with interest in either history or art. It is easily
accessible by road as well as by air.
